These Guys Have Saved Hundreds of Dwarf Horses

The Dodo Little But Fierce

People adopt dwarf horses because they are so small, but they have no idea how many medical issues these horses can have. Josh and Alex run The Peeps Foundation, a rescue for dwarf horses. They rescue horses from breeders, neglectful homes and owners who can't take care of them. One of these horses is Braveheart, a dwarf horse who was living in someone's basement until he was brought to The Peeps Foundation.

From Rescue to Mascot, Peeps is the Life of the Party

Chronicle of the Horse

The U.S. team of impressive jumpers might have won the evening in the $100,000 FEI Nations Cup, but for many spectators, the true equine star on Feb. 27 was much smaller.

As Nations Cup mascot, Peeps, a dwarf miniature horse, was decked out in patriotic attire complete with a custom cooler, leg wraps and a colorful hairdo detailed with ribbons. She was the U.S. team’s biggest fan during Week 8 of the Winter Equestrian Festival (Fla.) and raised the spirit of spectators to an even higher level as they crowded around to give her a pat, or kids a hug.

How Major Stars Fell For Minis

FEI

The story of the Peeps Foundation is enough to melt even the hardest heart.

The foundation, linked to the American Mad Season show jumping barn, is dedicated to rescuing dwarf minis with special needs. The Wellington, Florida-based organisation offers rescue and rehabilitation for minis that are able bodied and healthy that need new homes, as well as sanctuary for those that have acute problems.

Show Jumper Ben Maher Has A New Mascot in Rio

Top British show jumper Ben Maher added a new horse to his string just before the start of the Winter Equestrian Festival, and while the ownership change might have been under the deadline for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, this one’s not really a team prospect. Rio is an adorable mini that Maher and his girlfriend Sophie Gracida rescued, so the jumps might be a bit big for him. But what he lacks in height, he more than makes up for in cuteness and personality.
